Our Story

faint-yield began in 2018 when our founder, James Whitmore, realised that most energy efficiency advice was aimed at homeowners with detached houses. The millions of people living in flats were largely overlooked. Having lived in a poorly insulated Victorian conversion in South London, James understood the frustration of high energy bills with no clear path to improvement.

What started as a small consultancy has grown into a nationwide service, but our focus remains the same: practical solutions for real apartments.

Our Mission

We exist to make energy efficiency accessible to everyone, regardless of whether they own their property or rent. Our mission is to reduce energy waste in British apartments while helping residents save money and reduce their environmental impact.

Too often, tenants are told they cannot make improvements. Homeowners in leasehold flats face restrictions from management companies. We work within these constraints to find solutions that actually work.

Our Values

Practicality First

We recommend solutions that work in real-world conditions, not theoretical ideals. Every suggestion must be feasible within the constraints of apartment living.

Honest Assessment

We will tell you when a proposed improvement is not cost-effective. Our reports are clear about expected savings versus costs.

Long-Term Thinking

Quick fixes have their place, but we prioritise improvements that deliver lasting value. Energy efficiency should be sustainable in every sense.

Inclusive Approach

Whether you own or rent, live in a one-bed or manage a block of twenty, we tailor our approach to your specific situation.

What We Believe

"The best time to improve your flat's energy efficiency was ten years ago. The second best time is now. Every month of delay costs money and contributes to emissions that did not need to happen."
- James Whitmore, Founder

The Apartment Challenge

Improving energy efficiency in flats presents unique challenges that detached homeowners never face. Shared walls, communal heating systems, leasehold restrictions, and the tenant-landlord dynamic all add complexity. We have spent years developing approaches that work within these constraints.

Our methods are informed by real-world experience, not laboratory conditions. When we recommend a solution, it is because we have seen it work in similar properties time and again.
